TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - With the music, lights and decorations - it’s hard not to feel the Christmas spirit at Winterhaven.
The magic of the season has drawn out Sam Rodriguez and Lauren Robinson every year since they had their first date at the Festival of Lights five years ago.
"She was a receptionist and I was a valet at the dealership we worked for. That's how we met and it kind of grew from there," said Sam Rodriguez, as he explained how he and Lauren met.
As they walked around Sunday evening, they stopped at the Wishing Tree off of Christmas Avenue to write down their hopes and dreams.
Lauren's wish was to marry her best friend.
"I kind of knew as soon as I wanted to talk to him 24/7 and be around him all the time," she said.
Sam prepared his wish ahead of time, a poem detailing his love and ending with the question.
To Lauren's surprise, her wish came true. She was emotional as he popped the question, surrounded by the cheers of their family and friends.
Rodriguez said he knew Lauren was the one three months into their relationship.
"Five years have flown by. It feels like six months, if that. That's kind of when you know you have the right thing," he said.
They spent their night making memories at a place close to their hearts, "It kind of brings it full circle. It's another start to our journey. A very important journey."
Winterhaven is now not only the place where their spark began five years ago, but one where their bond is now set in stone.
