TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Tombstone Marshal Sgt. Travis Mattern was recognized Tuesday evening at Schieffelin Hall in Tombstone for talking down a jumper from the Mescal/J6 bridge over I-10.

Sgt. Mattern was off-duty and heading home when he saw the call on his screen about a man threatening to jump.

He was in the area and responded. He used his car to block traffic and then ran up the on-ramp and started talking to the guy. Mattern was able to talk him down and saved his life.

The Tombstone Marshal’s Department and the Wild West Detachment of the Marine Corps League presented Sgt. Mattern with a distinguished citizen award Tuesday evening.
