TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Amphi Boys Soccer appears to be back.

A year after missing the post-season for the first in this decade the Panthers Wednesday night won their ninth straight to start the season beating visiting Casa Grande 5-1.

The Panthers (9-0) have allowed just seven goals in their nine wins.

Amphi got a pair of goals from Joslain Witandayi. Isaac Carreon, Gamar Garem and Muyize Irankunda also scored for the Panthers.

Amphi is currently ranked 1st in Conference 4A according to MaxPreps Power Rankings and third overall in the state behind just #1 Sunnyside and 2nd ranked Gilbert Campo Verde.

The official AIA rankings will not be released until January 3.

The Panthers are in their first season under longtime assistant coach Matt Medina who took over for Mike Gonzales after last season.

Amphi has made two trips to the Final Four (2010 and 2015) this decade but finished just 7-10 in 2018.

It’s as international roster as you will find here in Southern Arizona as the Panthers field players from at least three different African countries, several middle eastern nations, Mexico and the United States.
