UPDATE: Police reopen Grant Road after crash involving pedestrian

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - The Tucson Police Department has identified the man hit by a truck on Thursday, Jan. 3 as 67-year-old Dennis P. Mulligan.

According to a TFD news release, the crash is now fatal, after Mulligan died from his injuries on Tuesday morning, Jan. 8.

The crash occurred shortly before 2 a.m. Thursday, near Grant Road and Palo Verde Avenue. Tucson Fire Department crews arrived on scene and transported Mullligan to Banner University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

According to interviews after the crash, Mulligan had been walking across Grant Road from north to south, east of Palo Verde, but was not in a crosswalk when he stepped off the median and directly into the path of the truck.

The driver remained at the scene and told officers that he swerved in an attempt to avoid hitting the man, but was unsuccessful, hitting Mulligan with the corner of his truck on the passenger side, according to the TPD release.

Officers determined that neither impairment nor speed were factors in the crash.

According to TPD no citations or arrests have been made at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
