TIME TO PLAY! Thousands head up Mount Lemmon to enjoy snowfall

Tucson heads up Mount Lemmon to enjoy snowfall

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Thanks to an amazing winter storm the last few days, Mount Lemmon and Summerhaven are enjoying more snow than they’ve had in years.

Catalina Highway, the road to Mount Lemmon, reopened early Thursday, Jan. 3 and thousands of people headed up to enjoy the fresh snowfall.

Workers at Mount Lemmon Ski Valley, the southern most ski resort in the United States, said it is the most snow they have seen in years.

“It’s very unique you know to go skiing in the desert and be back in your own bed at the end of the day," said Graham Davies of Ski Valley. “You can finish errands or whatever. It’s very special and it just feels good to be open.”

There could be even more on the way this weekend, when a cold front will bring rain to southern Arizona Saturday and Sunday.

If the temperatures cooperate -- the low is projected to be only 32 degrees -- Mount Lemmon could see more snow.
