TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -- The Arizona Cardinals announced the hiring of Kliff Kingsbury as head coach on Tuesday, Jan. 8.

It has been a whirlwind couple of months for Kingsbury.

On Nov. 25, he was fired by Texas Tech after going 35-40 in six seasons. In early December, Kingsbury was named offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Southern Cal.

Southern Cal initially blocked Kingsbury from talking to NFL teams, but the school later changed its mind to allow him to test the NFL waters.

Kingsbury takes over for Steve Wilks, who was fired after just one season as head coach.

Wilks' firing followed a 3-13 season, the franchise’s worst record in 18 years and the worst in the NFL this season.

He was the first Cardinals coach to be fired after one season since Joe Kuharich in 1952.

Wilks, 49, was hired after Bruce Arians retired following five seasons in Arizona.
