UPDATE: Crews still working to repair gas leak, road restrictions remain in place

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD News 13) - Crews from Southwest Gas have secured a gas leak on the east side and are still working to repair the line.

The line break was believed to have been caused by a third party working in the area and hitting the gas line. According to Southwest Gas there are 800 customers without gas and are anticipating having restored the gas by Saturday morning.

The Tucson Fire Department is reporting that the Udall Center at 7200 E, Tanque Verde will be open for those affected by the outage. It will remain open overnight, service animals and well socialized pets are welcome.

Traffic restrictions to remain in place on Prudence between Calle La Vega and Calle Arturo, as crews continue repair on gas line.

Drivers are asked to avoid the area and use an alternate route if possible. No word on when the area will be reopened.
