TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - A new Wal-Mart store is planned for the southeast side. According to site plans, the 91,000 square foot property would sit at the southeast corner of Golf Links and Houghton.

If past Wal-Mart developments are any indication, the new store would open up hundreds of new jobs, and broaden retail choices for local shoppers. But some neighbors worry the new development hits too close to home.

"It's way too close," said Mario Garcia, whose backyard fence is just feet away from the edge of the new Wal-Mart property. He worries the new development will bring noise, traffic, and problems. "It's going to be very different."

The city of Tucson's Planning and Development Services Department says the company is about halfway through the process for the new development. The next step would be for Wal-Mart to submit building plans.

Representatives with Wal-mart and with the city have been communicating with Garcia through the process. He says the company is taking steps to address some issues like bright lights blockage of scenic views. But Garcia still opposes the plan, and intends to continue voicing his opposition.
