A traffic stop for a stolen vehicle turned into a manhunt, shooting and drug bust.  It happened 9:00 a.m. Wednesday on Houghton Road, near Interstate 10.

An officer with the Department of Public Safety pulled over two men who were driving a stolen vehicle.  After the officer exited his car, the suspects in the truck backed into his patrol car.  The officer shot at the men, but did not hit them.  The men drove into the desert, abandoned their truck and ran away.

Officers searched the abandoned truck and found a "substantial amount of marijuana," according to Sheriff's Deputy Dawn Barkman.

After three hours of scouring the desert, officers found the two men.  One of them suffered from minor injuries; he was treated and released from the hospital.  The other man was taken in for questioning.

Officers from five law enforcement agencies were involved in the search: Department of Public Safety, Pima County Sheriff's Deputies, Tucson Police, Border Patrol and Customs Enforcement.

Five schools in the Vail Unified School District were on lock-down during the search.

Both suspects were booked into the Pima County Jail Wednesday evening.

Thanksgiving dinner plans take a detour when it comes to a good deal. Shoppers were out, with their wallets out, at the Tucson Premium Outlets in Marana Thursday night, Nov. 23. But any signs of chaotic holiday shopping were muted, just as the shoppers had hoped.
