Monsoon Storms Flood Tucson Streets

KOLD News 13 Staff

Even if you were indoors Thursday night, you heard the rumbling.  If you were outdoors, you were doused.

Strong storms pushed through the Tucson metro area, bringing with them street flooding and power outages.

Even careful drivers weren't spared:  an ambulance overturned on I-10 near Sunset.  One person was on board the ambulance at the time.  No information on his condition was available, but he was eventually transported by another ambulance to the hospital.

Underpasses easily flooded in the deluge of water.  Orange Grove under I-10 was blocked off, but not before one woman got caught in the floods.  She says it was raining so heavily, she didn't even realize the water was high underneath the train tracks.  A Marana police cruiser drove through the water and made it through, but then it stalled out and had to be towed away.  On the east side, near Broadway and Craycroft, another car got stuck in a wash.  But the driver made it out safely.

High winds downed power lines, some at Oracle and Wetmore.  Tucson Electric Power says another pole snapped on the east side.  At one point up to 10,000 TEP customers lost power at one point.  Most of the outages were scattered across the city.  About 1,300 people were still without power as of 10pm.
