The average Joe would be brewing if he knew how much he could save making his own Cup of Joe.  Part of KOLD News 13 this Morning's Money Saving May Series, Chef Frank Palazzolo of Nonna Maria's in Oracle wakes us up with the jolting revelation you could save up to 800 dollars a year as your own Barista. 

Like his relatives in Italy, Chef Frank makes his own Espresso and flavored coffee every day.  It's a daily routine that saves nearly five dollars a cup. 

Here's a breakdown:

Gourmet Coffee Prices  vs. Home Brewed Gourmet Coffee Prices  

  • Espresso  $1.85              Espresso .80  (savings/cup $1.05)
  • Flavored coffee $3.95     Flavored Coffee .60  (savings/cup$3.35)
  • Cappuccino $3.25           Cappuccino .90   (savings/cup$2.35)
  • Regular coffee $1.50       Regular coffee .50 (savings/cup$1.00)

Frank Palazzolo Coffee Recipes

Nonna's Caffe` Moka

  • 2oz. espresso coffee
  • 4 tablespoons chocolate syrup
  • 4oz. milk
  • 2 tablespoons whipping cream
  • 1.Brew espresso to manufacturer's directions.
  • 2.Pour espresso in a cup ad milk and chocolate syrup stir in cup
  • 3.Topped with whipping cream ( can ad cinnamon powder)
  •           and serve .

Nonna's Moka Chiller

  • Follow step 2 and than pour it in a blender with a cup of ice .
  • Blend 1 minute to 2 minutes till mixture is slushy.
  • Pour in a clear glass topped with whipping cream
  •  ad Chocolate and Carmel syrups and serve.

 

Frank's Espresso Martini

  • 1/4 cup Voka
  • 1/4 cup Espresso
  • 2 tablespoons Godiva White Chocolate Liqueur
  • 6oz. ice
  • 2 tablespoons White Chocolate syrup
  • 2 tablespoons Half & Half

Palce in a martini shacker ,Ice than ad Espresso,Voka ,Godiva Liqueur,

White Chocolate syrup,and Half & Half .Shake it very well.

and serve in Martini Glass .

    A group aimed at getting more people to vote in Arizona is on a mission to register thousands of new voters by this fall.  ONE Arizona announced the launch of the statewide effort earlier this month. The goal is to have 200,000 new voters registered by the November midterms. Pima County plays a role in that with a goal of 30,000 new registered voters.
