The Southern Arizona Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure® is dedicated to combating breast cancer at every front. Up to 75 percent of the Affiliate’s net income goes toward funding grants to local hospitals and community organizations that provide breast health education and breast cancer screening and treatment programs for medically underserved women. The remaining net income (a minimum of 25 percent) supports the national Komen Grants Program, which funds groundbreaking breast cancer research, meritorious awards and educational and scientific programs around the world.

October is not over yet and event's continue with an art auction on Saturday October 29th. From 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Toscana Studio & Gallery. The Studio's "Breasts for Life" project is based on two women who took castings of their busts prior to undergoing mastectomies. The busts have been decorated by 26 artists in the Tucson area and will be for auction at the event.

Mammography rates have dropped dramatically in Southern Arizona, said Jaimie Leopold, Susan G. Komen for Southern Arizona executive director. She said it's a crisis situation.
Breast cancer is a type of cancer where cells in the breast tissue divide and grow without normal control. It is a widespread and random disease, striking women and men of all ages and races.
