    A nonprofit on the University of Arizona campus, helping cash strapped college kids, wants new students to know they are there to help. Right now there is no permanent sign letting students know where the pantry is, so volunteers are doing all they can to get the word out.

    In 2013 the group raised $192,000 for local schools and this year they are hoping to beat that goal. Later this month they will sort and send supplies they have gathered to local schools, but those supplies can run out fast and that is where the public comes in.

    Now that schools in Southern Arizona are in session, some parents are opting to enroll their children in self-defense classes designed to protect them from bullying. The RadKIDS children safety training program will offer a self-defense class for parents and children ages 5 to 8 starting in September.

    The American Red Cross continues to have an urgent need for blood donors of all blood types. The need is still high, according to Red Cross officials, even with an increase in donations after a late July push. Donors with O, A and B negative blood are especially needed.
