Update: Interview schedule set for TUSD superintendent candidates

Update: According to a press release, the four finalists for Tucson Unified School District Superintendent will be interviewed on the following days:

  • Monday, September 20 -- Edith Macklin-Isquierdo, Ph.D., Assistant Superintendent for High School Leadership, Tucson Unified School District
  • Monday, September 27 -- John J. Pedicone, Jr., Ph.D., Masters Degree Coordinator - Educational Policy Studies and Practice, College of Education
  • Monday, October 11 -- Maria Cavazos-Garcia, Ph.D., Assistant Superintendent for State and Federal Programs and Community Outreach, University of Arizona, Tucson Unified School District
  • Monday, October 18 - Kenneth R. Baca, Ed.S., Assistant Superintendent for Business Services, Phoenix Elementary School District No. 1

During the day each candidate will meet with District Leadership, tour selected facilities, and interview with the Governing Board.  In the evening a community forum will be held on each day from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in the auditorium of Catalina Magnet High School, located at 3645 E. Pima Street. During this time, members of the public may submit questions for the candidate to answer.

Community members in attendance will be given an evaluation form to complete and turn in at the end of the forum. The Governing Board will review all comments received and use in consideration of the candidates.

The Governing Board expects to name a new Superintendent on November 9. The start date for the new Superintendent will be January 1 or July 1, 2011 depending on the availability of the selected candidate.

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - The TUSD Governing Board has just come out with a list of candidates for superintendent.

Candidates for the superintendent position:

  1. Kenneth Baca: Assistant Superintendent of Phoenix Elementary School No. 1
  2. Lupita Cavazos-Garcia: Assistant Superintendent for state and federal programs and community outreach, TUSD
  3. John Pedicone, Jr.: Masters Degree Coordinator, education policy studies and practice. College of Education, University of Arizona
  4. Edith Macklin-Isquierdo PHD: Assistant Superintendent for High School Leadership, TUSD
