ROCKY POINT, SONORA (KOLD) - The police chief of Rocky Point is fighting for his life, after he and his body guard were ambushed by gunmen Saturday.
The information comes from "Rocky Point News Online." In its report, it says Police Chief Erick Francisco Landagaray was shot six times Saturday night and is in grave condition. He was flown to a hospital in Hermosillo.
Landagaray's body guard, Luis Huerta Ibarra, was also shot but is expected to recover, according to the report.
Police presence in Rocky Point, known as Puerto Penasco in Mexico, is higher in wake of the violence. In an official press release, the Puerto Penasco Municipal Government says it "will step up efforts to maintain the safety of the citizenry." They say they are also confident this type of occurrence "will not repeat itself in our city."
