Prescribed fire in Saguaro National Park

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - Saguaro National Park plans to ignite a 423 acre prescribed burn on Mica Mountain, part of the Rincon Mountain District.

The ignition date depends mainly on weather conditions, but could be as soon as June 24 and last four to five days.

Temporary closures of several trails and campgrounds in the Rincon Mountain District are effective immediately.

Trail closures include:

  • Italian Spring
  • Cowhead Saddle
  • North Slope
  • Fire Loop
  • Spud Rock
  • Switchback
  • Mica Mountain
  • Mica Meadow
  • Bonita
  • Devils Bathtub
  • East Slope
  • Deerhead Spring
  • Turkey Creek
  • Heartbreak Ridge and
  • Manning Camp

Campground closures include:

  • Manning Camp
  • Grass Shack
  • Spud Rock

Off-trail areas within Saguaro National Park east of Douglas Springs and Manning Camp trails are also closed.

Smoke should be visible from Redington Pass, Benson, and Happy Valley and may also drift overnight in the Redington, Rincon Creek and San Pedro River Valley drainages.
