Deadly accident closes First Avenue and Ft. Lowell

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - A driver is dead Monday morning after an accident on Ft. Lowell and First Avenue, police said.

The intersection was closed for a couple of hours, a sergeant on scene told KOLD News 13's Lauren Burgoyne.

The driver who died, 31-year-old Severiano Martinez of Tucson, Ariz., "possibly ran a red light," that's according to a preliminary assessment from Tucson Police.

Martinez was heading east on Ft. Lowell when it "t-boned" a 4-door sedan heading south on First Avenue.

The eastbound car slammed into a power pole after the collision. Tucson Electric Power crews were on the scene this morning to repair the pole.
