This week, we've been hearing a lot about the possible recall of three public officials: Gov. Jan Brewer, state Sen. Russell Pearce and Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik. All three were elected to their positions. Just for Dupnik's recall election, the cost is an estimated $1.7 million.
Think about it. Is this really the time to be talking about adding to our budget shortfall?
State lawmakers will hold public hearings this week to discuss cutting Medicaid and public university funding. In all, there could be cuts of more than $1 billion. It would throw 280,000 people out of the Arizona health care system, and rob more than $170 million from the educational system in Arizona.
And yet, we are asking taxpayers to spend almost $2 million to oust just one elected official?
Our opinion: Research the issues yourself. Don't listen to the political pundits, most of whom don't live in Arizona. If you don't like what our public officials are doing, let's not add to our state's debt, get involved in the political process and make sure you show up at election time to cast your vote.
