TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - A local army veteran who was awarded the Purple Heart is giving his medal to Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
Al Lee gave his medal to staffers from Giffords' office Wednesday so they could give it to the wounded congresswoman.
Lee received the honor after being injured during combat in Iraq. He, like Giffords, suffered a traumatic brain injury.
He said Giffords deserves the honor because she also was injured in the line of duty, and that she has been a strong advocate for the military.
"She's been there for us," he said.
A representative from Giffords' office plans to deliver the citation to her this weekend in Houston where she continues to recover from the Jan. 8 shootings.
