Duke fire near Sierra Vista 90% contained

PATAGONIA, AZ (AP) - A human-caused wildfire burning in Southern Arizona south of the community of Patagonia is now 90% contained after charring an estimated 7,500 acres.

The U.S. Forest Service says some of the acreage in the Duke fire is from burn-out operations.

The fire has burned grass and brush at the lower elevations, oak and pine at the higher elevations of the Coronado National Forest about 12 miles south of Patagonia.

The blaze broke out about noon Sunday. Authorities say the cause still is under investigation. No injuries have been reported and no structures lost.

Many of the nearly 200 firefighters who have battled the blaze were released Friday afternoon as mop-up operations began. Authorities say all Forest Service roads in the area will be reopened Saturday morning.
