This week, I attended the Carondelet Foundation annual dinner where Arizona Head Basketball Coach Sean Miller was a guest speaker.
It was just after the news hit that Miller was not going to the University of Maryland and he was staying in Tucson.
Miller was humble and apologized again to those attending the dinner. But it was his message after the apology that may be more important to us.
Miller talked about the odds against the team. He said UA didn't have the most talented team in the tournament. But what they did have was teamwork. They wanted to play.
He had a senior that was willing to sacrifice a starting position for the good of the team. Miller talked about the integrity and class of his players. And they executed a plan.
Tucson and the University of Arizona are fortunate Miller has decided to stay - he's a good role model for our students and our community.
And at a time when it's easier to be nasty and disruptive, maybe we could all learn something from the team's humility, integrity and execution of a plan.
