TUCSON (KOLD) - A man is in jail on carjacking charges after police say he stole a truck from a car wash and tried to get away from both TPD and University of Arizona Police.

Tucson Police suspect 22-year-old Nicholas Duarte approached a worker at the Simoniz Car Wash at 730 East Broadway Boulevard with a weapon.  Police say Duarte demanded a pick-up truck that the employee was washing and drove off.

A Tucson Police officer broadcast the vehicle and suspect's descriptions to area law enforcement agencies, and a short time later, a UAPD officer spotted the truck near 22nd Street and Tucson Boulevard.  Police say the suspect sped off from the UAPD officer, who lost sight of the vehicle, but another UAPD officer spotted it and tried to stop it near Palo Verde and 25th Street.

Police say Duarte continued to flee and lost control of the vehicle, crashing into the landscaping in a yard.  Duarte ran off, police say, sprinting through several yards before officers arrested him.

Duarte is charged with one count of Armed Robbery, and one count of Unlawful Flight from Law Enforcement.
