Land deal could provide nearly 1,000 acres to Pima Co. for free

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - The Nature Conservancy wants to donate about 970 acres in Nuehman Canyon on the east end of the Catalina Mountains to Pima County.

The canyon area was donated to the Nature Conservancy 15 years ago. The land will go to the county's Sonoran Desert Conservation Plan.

Nature Conservancy also owns 80 adjoining acres, which it's offering to the county for $40,000 based on fair market value.

Money to buy that land would come from bond funding under the county's Flood Prone Land Acquisition Program. Commissioners are set to take up the issue Tuesday.
