Classrooms get special school supply delivery

TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) - Dozens of local schools will be given the tools to learn on Tuesday and it's all thanks to Southern Arizona communities.

Folks will deliver hundreds of boxes of basic school supplies to students and teachers after a successful two-week drive at area Walgreens stores in August.

This year community members and local businesses donated $102,200 worth of items.

That's $2,200 more than the goal and adds up to 579 boxes of items.

Last year 440 boxes were given out.

The school supply drive is put on by Tucson Values Teachers and Walgreens in an effort to help out teachers, who often spend their own money to stock their classrooms.

Dozens of different district, private and charter schools will get the special delivery.

More than $200,000 worth of classroom supplies have been donated to area schools since the drive launched three years ago.

Thanksgiving dinner plans take a detour when it comes to a good deal. Shoppers were out, with their wallets out, at the Tucson Premium Outlets in Marana Thursday night, Nov. 23. But any signs of chaotic holiday shopping were muted, just as the shoppers had hoped.
