Man sentenced in deadly Chandler crash

David Wiggins David Wiggins
CHANDLER, AZ (CBS5) -

A man has been sentenced to life in prison for causing a deadly crash while trying to elude police.

Judge Karen Potts sentenced David Wiggins to life with the eligibility for parole after 35 years.

Wiggins had pleaded not guilty to one count of first-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault and one count of felony flight from law enforcement.

In September 2011, an officer in an unmarked police car tried to pull over Wiggins, who never stopped and eventually sped up. Police pulled back, according to authorities.

Officers tried to set up a perimeter to stop the vehicle.

Wiggins eventually crashed into another car at McQueen and Warner roads, injuring a man and his two sons, ages 7 and 11, from Chandler. Alexander Katsaros, 11, later died at the hospital from his injuries.
