Senator John McCain is criticizing the Republican presidential candidates who say they would reinstitute waterboarding if they were elected president.
The Arizona Republican tweeted Monday morning, "Very disappointed by statements at SC GOP debate supporting waterboarding. Waterboarding is torture."
McCain's criticism was a reaction to comments at the "CBS/National Journal Republican Presidential Candidates Debate on Saturday.
McCain has been vocal in his opposition to waterboarding as an interrogation technique.
He endured torture as prisoner of war during the Vietnam War.
Two candidates came out clearly in favor of waterboarding during the debate.
Michele Bachmann said, "If I were president, I would be willing to use waterboarding. I think it was very effective."
Herman Cain said, "I would return to that policy. I don't see it as torture. I see it as an enhanced interrogation technique."
Only Jon Huntsman and Ron Paul expressed pointed opposition to waterboarding during the debate.
