A New Year's Wish List for Tucson

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

With New Year's Day approaching, we would like to share with you our Top Ten Wish List for Tucson in 2012.  Here's the first five—with the second five coming later this week:

  1. Make our schools better.  In order for that to happen, the TUSD Administrators, School Board, teachers and parents have to work together.  Stop the fighting.  We need quality education for our younger generation.
  2. Support and bring back professional sports to Tucson:  baseball spring training and Minor League Baseball.  Support soccer's Desert Diamond Cup as well as golf's WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship—both are in February.
  3. Fix our streets. Do we really need ALL of the widening projects?  Instead, look at properly programming our traffic lights.  Many of the problem intersections have short-cycle lights.  Use the money saved to fix our huge craters—or potholes.
  4. Arizona can't do it—but our mayor and local government can:  make it illegal to text and drive.  It won't be popular, but it's the right thing to do.
  5. Here's hoping our new mayor and the City Council can work together with the new leadership at the Chamber of Commerce.  We need to bring more businesses and more jobs to Tucson.

We'll have KOLD's final five wishes for 2012 later this week.  In the meantime, we want to know your thoughts.  Email me at dbush@kold.com or comment below or comment on Facebook.  We'll share your ideas next week.
