TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Great teachers inspire students to strive for excellence.

We begin our teacher tributes series, honoring outstanding teachers in Southern Arizona.

Nine teachers are nominated for the U of A, Circle K Teacher of the Year Award.

The first finalist is Pueblo High School teacher Dr. Lolita Levine.

Dr. Lolly Levine knows how to bond with her students.

She says, "if you can establish a relationship with them, you've got them hook."

When we visited Pueblo High School, she showed them the structure of a DNA molecule.

Dr. Levine has been teaching for 17 years in the Tucson Unified School District.

She says kids have a lot of imagination and inquisitiveness.

Levine says "everyday I learn from them. Everyday they tell me how effective I am and from that I try to make myself better."

She instills in them the belief that they can achieve anything.

Sophomore Melissa Bustamante says "I feel real confident in this class because she teaches us.  I feel that whatever she teaches us, I can use in the next day."

So no matter what the lesson is, Dr. Levine nurtures them and helps them realize their potential.

Sophomore Pablo Grijalva says his teacher gives them 110%.

Raul Soto adds, "she loves her job more.  She likes being here everyday.  She likes having us here.  So she has a better attitude."

Dr. Levine says she has the passion for teaching.

As long as she doesn't lose that passion, she may continue teaching forever.
