Giffords' resignation began emotional week

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

It has been an emotional week as we've watched Congresswoman Gabby Giffords resign from her job.

It all started on Sunday, as we watched a video of an upbeat Gabby Giffords talk about her decision to step down.  On Monday, she was home in Tucson, thanking her supporters.  On Tuesday, we watched her shine as she hugged President Obama before the State of the Union address.   And finally, on Wednesday, we teared up as she turned in her resignation.

It is our opinion that Gabby's decision to resign is sad, but it is a good one.  Her attention should be directed at getting better.  And there is no doubt that we will hear from her again.   Gabby Giffords has much to offer and could be even more effective as her "own voice" rather than "one voice" of 535 in Congress.  No one is quite sure what she will do.  But Gabby has committed her career to helping others and she is a symbol for civility and cooperation in public discourse.

The staff at KOLD News 13 wishes Gabby the best in her recovery.  And we look forward to seeing her back home in Tucson when possible!
