Sun Tran opens upgraded northwest side bus facility

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Sun Tran is operating out of an upgraded facility on the Northwest side.

The 25-acre facility will store and maintain Sun Tran's expanding fleet of buses.  It also allows the continued expansion of transit service.

The $56 million complex was built in three phases, starting in 2005.  Money for the project came from federal grants, bonds, and the Regional Transportation Authority.

The new Northwest Bus Facility has the capacity to operate and maintain 250 buses for the entire Tucson region.  Sun Tran will continue to operate approximately one-third of the service from its location at 4220 S. Park Avenue.
