Tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. Superintendent John Huppenthal will address thousands of students and parents, ending the second annual National School Choice Week.
Huppenthal will also be commenting on the Arizona Superior Court's decision earlier this week regarding Arizona's Empowerment Scholarship Accounts (ESAs) for special needs students, at Edu-Prize campus in Queen Creek, Ariz.
On Wednesday, a judge ruled that Arizona's ESA program was constitutional under Arizona law. In the ESA program, parents of special needs students can take 90 percent of education funding that is provided to them by the state and use it to buy educational services for their child as they see fit.
"The judge's ruling was a great victory for parents and our most vulnerable students," said Superintendent Huppenthal.
"The ESA program epitomizes what school choice is all about – giving parents direct control over their children's education," Huppenthal said.
National School Choice Week included events all across the nation to increase awareness of the importance of providing effective educational options for every child.
