Police have identified the body found in the Santa Cruz Vista Apartments as 47-year old Carmelita Aguilar.
She was the mother of the male, Christopher Aguilar, previously arrested in connection with this incident.
25-year-old Christopher Aguilar is charged with one felony count of concealment of a body. Police say he had lived with the woman found dead in an apartment and knew she had been dead for some time.
TPD received an anonymous phone call around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday asking police to check on a female resident at the Santa Cruz Vista Apartments at 1240 West Ajo Way. The caller also described a foul odor coming from the apartment.
When police arrived at the apartment for a welfare check, they found a female dead. No one else was in the apartment and the body appeared to be decomposed.
KOLD News 13 talked with neighbors and they say the last time they saw the woman was around New Years, around the same time Aguilar was released from prison.
People living near the apartment say they did smell the odor, but didn't know what it was.
"A lot of them said they didn't know what the smell was and figured it was just a sewer problem. Apparently, they've never been around anything like that before so they figured it was just a sewer problem," said Michael Suttle, who recently moved into the apartment and notified the land lord of the smell.
Aguilar has not been charged with killing the woman. The investigation is on-going with respect to determining the circumstances of her death.
