TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

January was one of the warmest and driest months on record, Tucson News Now Chief Meteorologist Chuck George said Friday, with the last measurable rainfall in Southern Arizona on Jan. 16.

The rainless stretch might come to an end next week, he said, forecasting the possibility for rain Wednesday or Thursday.

"A Pacific storm is developing and may bring a bit of rain Wednesday, but not before a beautiful weekend," George said.

January's average temperature was 55.6 degrees, the fourth warmest on record and the warmest in nine years.

The three warmest months were 58.6 degrees (1986), 58.1 (2003) and 56.1 (1956).

Tucson received only .14 of an inch of rain in January, 15 percent below normal, George said.

Phoenix had no measurable rain in January, the National Weather Service said.
