GREEN VALLEY, AZ - Homeowners upset over not having a say in a church's decision to erect a solar structure near their neighborhoods will meet this month with church officials and community planners to resolve at least some differences.
The Feb. 14 meeting will be held at Green Valley Council offices in Green Valley Village. Meanwhile, construction work at St. Francis-in-the-Valley at 600 S. La Canada Drive has been halted.
At issue with neighbors and GVC's Planning and Architecture Committee is that they were not notified before the project was approved so they could give input, as is typical — but not required — with other Green Valley projects. Several nearby homeowners have complained that the structure's height — 22 feet at its tallest — and dark-brown color are "overwhelming" eyesores, don't blend with surroundings and ruin scenic views. They claim it lowers aesthetic and property value.
