Tucson Police investigate shooting involving Homeland Security

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - Homeland Security Investigations special agents fired on a suspect Saturday night at the Santa Cruz Lanes bowling center, spokesperson Amber Cargile said.

The suspect was arrested after agents found drugs in his vehicle, Cargile said.

Tucson Police are investigating allegations the suspect tried to run over agents, forcing them to fire in self defense, Cargile said.

Two children were found unharmed in the backseat of the suspect's vehicle, Cargile said, and were turned over to Child Protective Services.

The incident happened at 4:15 p.m. Saturday, Tucson Police Sgt. Maria Hawke said.

Tucson Poilce were called for backup assistance for a traffic stop at West Ajo Way and South 16th Avenue. 

Homeland Security agents were focusing on a vehicle, which began to move. Agents fired at the vehicle after the suspect in the vehicle presented a deadly threat, Hawke said. 

The vehicle came to a stop after hitting a pole in Santa Cruz Lanes.

No one was injured by gunfire, Hawke said.

Santa Cruz Lanes were closed Saturday night after the incident. It reopened Sunday.
