Politics getting in way of admirable mission?

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

Recently, there has been a lot of negative publicity about the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization.

The controversy surrounds a corporate decision to not fund Planned Parenthood.  The money wasn't for abortions, but to fund mammograms for women who couldn't afford one.

Since the decision became public, several people have resigned from Susan G. Komen's corporate office and the organization has reversed its decision about funding for Planned Parenthood.

Unfortunately, the damage has been done here.  Registration has slowed down for the Tucson Race for the Cure on March 25.

Think about this.  The Race for the Cure is the largest fundraiser for the local Komen affiliate.  Seventy percent of the money raised here stays here and is used for high quality access of medical care for those who need it.

Let's not let politics punish women and men of southern Arizona who need our help.

Register now for the Race for the Cure in Southern Arizona.  KOLD is a sponsor.  Go to our website, tucsonnewsnow.com/komen or to the Komen site at komensaz.org to register.
