TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A motorcyclist collided with a car near Speedway and Camino de Oeste on Tuesday, sending him to the hospital with serious injuries.

The rider, who was in his 40s, was wearing a helmet, Northwest Fire Capt. Adam Goldberg said.

His injuries were serious but not life-threatening, Goldberg said. He was taken to the UA Medical Center.

The accident happened around 5 p.m. in the 5200 block of West Trails End, Goldberg said.

The Pima County Sheriff's Office was on the scene to investigate. The motorcycle rider was trying to pass the car going west and collided into the driver's side mirror, said PCSO.

According to deputies, both the driver of the car and the motorcycle rider work for the department of corrections and were leaving the academy.
