There is a teacher at Mountain View High School who is giving her students skills they can use for life.
Susan Rich gets right down on the floor with her kids to show them how it's done.
In her total body fitness class, technique is really important.
Students can always count on Ms. Rich to make sure they're doing it right.
Junior Robert Autry said, "She's a really good teacher. She helps me with my form, and I wouldn't have much progress if she didn't help me with my form and exercises."
Ms. Rich meets her students where they are in terms of physical fitness.
She helps them develop personal goals, whether they want to be in top shape, or just lose a few pounds.
"One of my girls came in and said 'you owe me a new pair of jeans', and I said, ''Why?', and she goes, I've lost weight since I started your class. And so those are little triumphs for me"
P.E. is not a graduation requirement at Mountain View High School, yet Susan's classes are popular electives.
The kids know they will be able to leave here, and go to a gym with confidence, all because they took Ms. Rich in high school..
Seniors Joanne Rosado and Heather Wood said, "Whenever we have a question and stuff, she knows it right off the bat. Not only does she answer, she demonstrates what she's trying to tell you."
Susan comes from a family of teachers, parents, grandparents, aunts, cousins. She tried to break out of the mold for a career in fashion merchandising, but the classroom was calling her.
"When I think about my kids, and they are my kids. I love teaching and I love being with the kids. I love being able to work out all day long.
