Tucson City Council votes on mini dorms

Posted: Updated:
TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Tucson mayor and council voted 7-0 in favor to amend the group dwelling land use code.

The amendment deals with the so called mini dorms, that are just north of the U of A campus. The code was not clear and for the last ten year residents in neighborhoods like Jefferson Park complained.

The mini dorms housed sometimes 5 and even more people in residential and multifamily neighborhoods.

The change would not allow developers to build housing for more than 5 people in a single family home. For residents who already live in this type of housing they would be grand fathered in. The only time 5 individuals could live together, is if they're related.
