Mobile home fire kills young boy near Willcox

WILLCOX, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

A three-year-old boy is dead, following a mobile home fire near Willcox.

Authorities tell Tucson News Now, the fire broke out just before 6:00 p.m. Saturday on the 2900 block of West Torres Lane outside Willcox.

Carol Capas, with the Cochise County Sheriff's Department tells Tucson News Now, Deputies arrived at the scene, and were approached by a woman screaming that her son was still inside the single-wide trailer.

Deputies found the entire east side of the mobile home engulfed in flames. Deputies then went to the west side of the trailer and broke out a window. Smoke bellowed out, not allowing any access to the inside of the residence, according to Capas.

Capas says the woman was able to get her four-year-old and one-year-old sons out, but her three-year-old was trapped in the east side of the mobile home. The woman said she ran outside and flagged down a motorist who also tried to get inside the mobile home without success.

Firefighters say the body of three-year old Edward Hielo was located in the east side of the mobile home near the bedrooms.

The Southern Arizona Chapter of the American Red Cross is now assisting the family.

Fry Fire Department Fire Investigators and the Cochise County Sheriff's Office are now trying to determine the cause of the fire.
