The #16 Arizona Wildcats completed a perfect weekend at their Hillenbrand Invitational Softball Tournament with a 8-0 victory Sunday over Southern Utah in a game shortened to five innings due to the run rule.
Transfer senior Jessica Spigner (2-0) started in the circle for Arizona and lost a no-hit bid in the top of the fifth when the Thunderbirds' Kadi Henderson smashed a single to centerfield to start the inning.
Spigner picked up the victory settling for a three-hitter. Centerfielder Hallie Wilson helped preserve the shutout by throwing out Henderson at third base on a double by Haylee Hoch.
Spigner hit a two-run home run in the 3rd to give the Wildcats at 3-0 lead. Brigette Del Ponte added a grand slam in the 4th, her third home run of the season.
Arizona finished the tournament winning all five of their games to raise their record to 8-3.
The Wildcats travel to the Cathedral City Classic next weekend in Palm Springs, California.
