Peoria school board to clarify teacher dress code

Posted: Updated:
PEORIA, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The Peoria Unified School District governing board wants to put new restrictions on school teacher's dress code.

The board hopes to put in place a policy covering everything from footwear to how much skin a blouse or skirt should expose.

Current district policy requires that staff attire be professional, but there's no dress code to offer a further definition.

After contacting another district, Amphitheater School District, they informed Tucson News Now that at schools where the students have to wear a uniform, the teachers are required to wear uniforms. These schools include La Cima, Nash and Amphi Middle Schools.

Peoria District officials say the proposal is aimed at setting clear expectations of employees while avoiding awkward confrontations for principals in enforcing dress codes.
