TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The 87th Tucson rodeo wrapped up on Sunday, with a lot of big wins and happy fans.

Some of the best cowboys and cowgirls in the world have been in Tucson all week to showcase their talents, with the hope of taking home some money.

Staff said they handed out more than $300,000 this year, in prize money.

Bill Schurg, chairman of the Tucson Rodeo committee estimated about 60,000 fans attended the rodeo this week, and that they had seen sell-out crowds on both Saturday and Sunday.

Schurg attributed the great attendance to Mother Nature, the sunshine, and great temperatures.

Schurg said the attendance this year beat last year's number of 55,000.  Tucson saw the coldest temperatures on record last year, and Schurg said it had been snowing and sleeting during Rodeo week.

Fans, along with cowboys and cowgirls cleared out quickly on Sunday.  Many of the them said they were headed to perform at the next rodeo, and had to get there fast.

Staff said clean-up of the Rodeo grounds will begin on Monday, by Tuesday they hope to start planning for the 88th Tucson Rodeo, that will take place in March, 2013.
