UA community to hold press conference on guns on campus

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) -

The University of Arizona community will gather on the UA Mall tomorrow for a respectful debate about the guns on campus bill.

Student leaders, university police, faculty and university administration will hold a public press conference Thursday at noon to 1 p.m. to outline opposition to the proposed guns on campus bill. Those in favor of the bill are also invited to voice their opinions.

Under SB 1474, public universities and community colleges may restrict or prohibit the carrying or transporting of a weapon within any building on campus if a sign meeting certain specifications is conspicuously posted at each public entrance to the building and if the college or university provides temporary and secure storage for the weapon.

Except for this policy, public universities and community colleges are prohibited from adopting or enforcing any policy or rule that restricts or prohibits the carrying or transporting of a concealed weapon by a person with a valid concealed weapons permit.
