TUCSON (Tucson News Now) - The Tucson Fire Department says it will postpone a controlled burn on the west side if winds are still whipping up on Wednesday morning.
TFD is planning the burn at the Sweetwater Wetlands as part of a project to enhance Tucson Water's Mosquito Abatement Program. The burn will be rescheduled to Thursday, if necessary.
The burn removes much of the dead vegetation produced by freezing winter temperatures which can become shelter for mosquito larvae. Tucson Water and the Tucson Fire Department have conducted annual controlled burns in selected areas of the Sweetwater Wetlands since 2002.
