VAIL, AZ (Tucson News Now) - About 50 Vail Vikings parents gathered at Purple Heart Park on the southeast side Friday night to decide how far they'll go with their concerns about missing money from the funds of their children's football league.

"(The dismissal) completely caught me out of the blue.  I had no idea it was coming," said Vail Vikings parent Angie Magnusson.  "It came in the form of an email."

Magnusson said that she was one six parents kicked out of Vail Vikings with little explanation.  She was later reinstated but only as a parent.  She said that she cannot be on the board nor serve as a coach.

"It's the Attorney General, and the Arizona Corporations Commission, and the IRS that maybe needs to take a look at this and see maybe what wrongdoing was done, and then proceed from there," said Vail Vikings parent Don Redd.

Redd said that the parents supported that move after their internal audit found more than four thousand dollars spent beyond the authorized amount on a team trip to Las Vegas in November.  Even so, they said that they wanted an expert opinion after their own work.

"They probably could have done it themselves or hired somebody outside, but they had asked us, a couple of parents, to step in, and see what they were doing," said Jennifer Sullivan, a Vail Vikings parent and member of the audit committee.  "In the end, we determined that if they were going to go back a year, they would do an external audit to go through and have an expert look at everything."

Because they said that what they want is answers, and the kids want to get back to playing football.

"It takes away from all the kids who want to play," said Jacob Magnusson, who has played for the Vail Vikings.

A prepared statement from new Vikings league president Carlos Flores said that an external audit will be performed after April 17th.  The parents had been insisting that the Tucson Youth Football and Spirit Federation get involved; however, Redd said that federation president Xavier Smith did not return a phone call Friday afternoon.  The TYFSF website said that the federation will monitor the situation until the Vail Vikings have concluded their own process.
