ETX detention officer arrested, accused of sex with inmate

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -
An East Texas detention officer has been indicted and jailed, accused of engaging in inappropriate behavior with an inmate.
Smith County Sheriff, J.B. Smith says an investigation into LaKerry Bowie started last September after an inmate made accusations of inappropriate sexual behavior against him.
Smith says although the sexual relationship between Bowie and the inmate was apparently consensual, it doesn't make a difference.
Bowie was employed with the detentional facility for two years. He was terminated after refusing to comply and cooperate with the investigation.
Bowie was indicted and arrested on March 23. He's charged with Civil Rights Violation of a person in custody.
Bowie is held in the Smith County Jail on $100,000 bond.
