Sancet enshrined in Lubbock

Frank Sancet, who led the Arizona Wildcats baseball program to national prominence beginning in the 1950s was enshrined this weekend in the National College Baseball Hall of Fame.

He is the 3rd Wildcat to receive the honor. Former coach Jerry Kindall was inducted in 2007 and Terry Francona is the only Arizona player to be enshrined, voted in 2011.

Sancet's son Bill and grandson Hank Rowe were among the family members and current head coach Andy Lopez who celebrate this weekend the man who laid the foundation for Arizona's baseball's success.

Sancet took over the UA program in 1950 and coached for 23 seasons. He won 831 games and remains the seventh-highest all-time for Division I coaches with a minimum of 10 years as a coach.

He guided the Wildcats to nine College World Series appearances, including the school's first visit in 1954. Three times UA advanced to the national title game.

Sancet's class included Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Lou Brock (Southern) and longtime big league star and current ESPN analyst Nomar Garciaparra (Georgia Tech).
