Arizona's Health Department has awarded nearly 100 medical marijuana dispensaries certificates to operate.
They did so today in Phoenix using a bingo style machine to randomly select air blown balls. It streamed live online.
The lottery is a key implementation step for the medical marijuana program what was approved by voter.
Eight of those dispensaries will be located here in Tucson.
A furniture store on the Southeast side of town will also be home to one of the region's first medical marijuana dispensaries. The announcement came just around noon today.
Dispensary applicants were very excited to get the news. They have been waiting for more than a year to find out if they can move ahead with their plans to operate a medical marijuana dispensary in Tucson.
They have spent thousands of dollars and dozens of hours doing all the paperwork, dotting the i's and crossing the t's.
The state handed out a total of 97 dispensary permits to those applicants who got everything in on time. Many of them were very nervous this morning.
Catalina, Ajo, Marana, Benson, Bisbee, Willcox, Sierra Vista, Douglas, Tubac and Continental also got one each.
