Sprinkler and early alarms save lives and damage

TUCSON, AZ (Tucson News Now) - A single sprinkler head saves the day, or rather evening, in a late night apartment fire.

Tucson Fire Department responded to several calls about flames and smoke coming from a ground floor apartment at 2 W. University. Additional alarms rang, as the four residents safely left the apartment and crews arrived on the scene to see smoke coming from the apartment.

Firefighters entered the apartment to find the fire had already been extinguished by a single sprinkler head. The initial cause of the fire was a pan of oil left unattended on the stove.

Due to the quickness of the alarm sounding and the efficiency of the sprinkler system, damage was kept to a minimum, and there were no injuries to report.

Damage was estimated at $15,000 and the displaced residents were able to move to a vacant apartment.
